The Mobile Hub offers a series of courses and workshops around the subject of mobile technology and mobile media. These courses are taught within the MediaLab (Internal), but can also be taught in other Universities or institutions by invitation. Related courses on Mobile technology offered by other Universities can be found under External courses.

Aim:

To give students a chance acquire relevant design, programming and production skills in order to be able to handle projects that have a mobile technology component.

Approaches:

Best practises, tips how to do things, hands-on production, learning what is out there as state of the art technology and how to use it.



Internal courses / Workshops

12.-16.9.05 1 week Workshop: Rapid prototyping for Mobile applications

Python & Flash for Mobile: Capabilities, limitations, hands-on production, tools. Teacher: Jurgen Scheible.

20.10.05 3h Lesson: Experimental interaction, Jitter and Mobile

How to build prototype apps. on Mobile devices to interact with Jitter via serial port (using Python for Series 60).

24.11.05 3h Lesson: Mobile and Bluetooth stamp microcontroller

How to build prototype apps. on Mobile devices to interact with a stamp microcontroller via Bluetooth.

- Aestetics of Mobile Media, 3h

Intro to audio visual content creation tools incl. micro movie, XHTML pages, ringtones, MMS, SMS. Teacher: Jurgen Scheible & others.

- Overview of Mobile technologies and add ons, 3h

Introduction to OS's, RFID, Semacode, GPS, Accelorometer, Sensors. Teacher: Jurgen Scheible

- The mobile as interface for artistic projects, 3h

Examples how others use mobiles in their projects, available technologies and tools. Teacher: Jurgen Scheible

- Designing audiovisual outdoor experiences with PDA based Mobile Bristol toolkit, 3h

Create location based outdoor experiences using interactive narrative paths with audio, video, animation, text.Teacher: Jurgen Scheible

- Concepts of Mobile multi-user applications, 3h

The MobiLenin project, client-server architectre. Teacher: Jürgen Scheible
